If you remember from an earlier post called ” Hello Again “, Melanie had a health scare with a bout of a atrial fibrillation, or AF, with Rapid Ventricular Reponse, or RVR. During atrial fibrillation, the heart’s upper chambers, called the atria, beat out of sync with the lower heart chambers, called the ventricles. For many people, AFib may have no symptoms. But AFib may cause a fast, pounding heartbeat, shortness of breath or light-headedness. This is dangerous because clots can form then in the atria and more into the brain, causing a stroke. She has been doing well with no more incidents of AF, but is on a anticoagulant drug called Eliquis. She will need to be on this drug for the rest of her life. If injured, it increases her risk of uncontrolled bleeding and does not have a reversing agent like warfarin, which is much more dangerous.
One of the contributing factors to AF can be sleep apnea. She had a sleep study which shows both of sleep apnea so it consult now with a pulmonologist is in need. The earliest date to see the pulmonologist is March 5th, postponing our South America motorcycle trip again. This time the postponement will be to next winter and into 2025. Our 650, which is in Medellin, will just have to wait another year for us.
We have plenty more plan for 2024, including a new venture for me, which I will talk about in another post. Make the most of your life and health while you can. Tomorrow may never happen.
Eat more ice cream.
Stay tuned to where are our next adventures will take us.
Cheers,
