Warning, heavy photo dump.

Leaving motor camp Romania we continued west into Hungary. Our goal was to spend a couple weeks riding in the Dolomites of Northern Italy.  Caution: photo heavy. 😉

After crossing the border into Hungary we stopped at the little town of Gyula and found a very nice campground right on the water. Crossing a small bridge or the river and wondering into town we found lovely tree lined sidewalks filled with artists, people milling about and a beautiful cathedral. After taking a look about the city and building up an appetite we stopped at the Bols Café for a bite to eat, a sip of wine and a place to people watch, still one of our favorite things to do.

Crossing into Slovenia the next day we found ourselves on a track we had been on about 8 years ago. It wandered through the forest up and down following the contours of the mountain. The tar roads we’re in great shape with the corners done in cobbled stones. After stopping in Bovec, surrounded by the peaks of the Julian Alps. From there headed north is a beautiful pass that we rode over and back, the Strmec na Predeiu.

Over the next 2 weeks we just camped with beautiful weather and fantastic views as we move slowly through the Julian Alps into the Dolomites of Northern Italy and Austria. Are 23rd wedding anniversary happened in this area on July 29th. We splurged on a beautiful hotel in Osttirol, Austria. We walked about town and discovered there was a community concert happening that night. They had a proper orchestra playing with seating in the street and on the sidewalks. They were drinks to be had all around. There were two women walking around in traditional Austrian dress selling shots of schnapps to the crowd, raising money for the town. It was a misty, beautiful evening.

Some more photos of this amazing area.

Cheers,

2WANDRRs
