We headed to the southern tip of the Dingle peninsula the next day and found the Kruger’s Bar, went inside and guess what we found? A bar full of Americans again. They were all there for the game, more of an excuse to come to Ireland and drink, me thinks. We continued on to the Star Wars EpVIII Sunset site and snapped a couple photos.

About this time I got a message. A good friend of mine, Erik, from Denmark via California, was on his BMW 1600 and hauling ass from Dublin to see us. He had come from Denmark heading to the Isle of Mann for the races. Coming from Norway a few years ago we had stopped to see Eric at his home and stayed a few days ( 04/12/2019, Week Before the Overland Event ). We found a place halfway between us in the small town of Adare, and met for lunch at the Pat Collins Bar. Erik had found a great B&B, the Tir Conaill, to spend the night. We had a fantastic night at this wonderful place and catching up before each heading a different direction the following morning.

Headed west again we caught a ferry outside of Tarbert to County Clair So we could ride to the Loophead Lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula. This lighthouse is a major landmark on the northern shore of the Shannon River. The lighthouse towers 90 meters over the cliffs. The Loophead Lighthouse is one of the most important lights on the Irish coast, guarding the entrance to the busiest river in Ireland, the river Shannon, since 1670.

We were on our way to a favorite pub in Doolin, Fitz’s Pub, known for its live traditional music. There is a new campground just around the corner, the O’Connor’s Riverside Camping & Caravan Park, on a small river. We cook some dinner at camp and wandered to the pub or a great night of music.

With time running short, we had a couple more things to do, so we headed east and into the Wicklow Mountains National Park. In the town of Killarney was another very nice campground, the Killarney Flesk Caravan & Camping Park. We decided on two nights here so we could do a loop ride through the National Park the following day.
Since we were in the area we decided to spend the night and visit another favorite place, Glendalough. Glendalough is home to one of the most important monastic sites in Ireland. This early Christian monastic settlement was founded by St Kevin in the sixth century and from this developed the “Monastic City”.

With only 2 days left in Ireland It was a more place we had to stop. An old friend, Paul, owner of Celtic Rider, has his new shop just outside of Dublin. We had found a campground nearby to spend the night with a very cool gastropub nearby, the Dew Drop Inn and Brewhouse. After a quick lunch we rode over to see Paul. As usual, while traveling, friendships can be made quickly, be enduring and immediately start up where they left off. We had rented a BMW from him about 10 years prior just after he had first opened. We still had buffs and sweatshirts that he had given us for our ride. Needless to say his business has grown. If you want to ride Ireland, this is the man to use. He loaded us up with hats, buffs, stickers and other goodies and we headed back to our campground.

Morning would come early so we would get up and pack camp and head to the ferry port for the short crossing from Dublin into Wales.
Cheers,
