A ride around Alabama.

Our friends Polly and Doug were heading to the MECUM auction in Las Vegas, NV. Doug had bought a bunch of old bikes in the UK the previous year. He brought them all home and got them running. Most of the bikes were all shipped to Las Vegas. Doug drove several valuable ones out in his van. They had invited us to join them. The auction was amazing. I found several I wanted to buy, but refrained.

I was just getting into being a lead instructor for Accident Scene Management. The MECUM auction was the same time as the NAMIL (National Association of Motorcycle Injury Lawyers). As I met these attorneys, I understood the difference. These attorneys were different from the ones that just advertise for motorcycle injuries. They were motorcyclist first, then attorneys. We had dinner and then drove around LV looking at the sights.

Since I had bought a standard camper I needed a way to bring a motorcycle. My Dodge 2500 has a high tail gate. I didn’t want to ride a motorcycle into the bed of the truck anymore. I decided to fabricate a winch setup to get a motorcycle into the bed. Here’s what I did.

We headed to Charleston, SC for my first class in ACM. We had a good time and I got my lead instructor certificate. We then continued to FL with the camper for some warm weather. While there we saw the famous Swamp Cabbage Festival.

Operation Hawaiian Clusterfuck. IYKYK

Basic and Advanced Accident Scene Management training at Penmerryl Farms. We went up to Penmerryl Farms Bed and Breakfast in Virginia. We taught a basic class and took the advanced class with Vicki, the founder of Road Guardians. We had a great time. Penmerryl Farms is a horse farmed that is morphing into a motorcycle camp and venue. If you’re in the area riding, stop in for the night. Tell them we sent you.

I did a thing again…N+1. But I was already N-2. 2011 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1700.

Time for Horizon’s Unlimited Virginia. We hadn’t been to this event in several years. This event is where we met mates Nigel and Dillon, plus many other folks that we have remained friends with. We presented three times and were on a roundtable discussion with Sam and David. We had a great time seeing old friends and meeting many new friends. I always hope our talks inspire others to get out there and travel. After we headed to MagSamaSama at the David and Emy Woodburn’s place in Georgia. They host a gathering of friends and folks that ride old BMW airhead motorcycles. The generously host this event free of charge for the attendees. Karma bank, you know. David and Emy rode a motorcycle with sidecar around the world over many years while raising their daughter. If you get a chance to read their book, Dis Big Pella Walkabout, an Odyssey: A Story for Our Daughter, you won’t regret it.

Camping on the beach in Pensacola, FL

We rode to the Helen, GA for the 51st Annual Helen to the Atlantic Balloon Race. It was okay but only 4 balloons actually took of in the race.

Done with my two outpatient surgery tune-ups. Then I smoked some meat.

Camping with the grandkids and friends

Our son Dallas’ 40th birthday happened to be on Father’s Day this year. We all gathered at his house to celebrate and drink him in to his next decade.

Cheers, and thanks for your patience. This blog is for us anyway. 😉
