Welcome back to the blog.

It’s been a while since I posted so I figured it was time to catch up. A lot has happened since then. Melanie survived her eye surgery, and all reports came back very positively. The macular hole is repaired so hopefully there are no more problems there. I had scheduled my right hip arthroplasty to coincide with the 30-day post-op of Melanie surgery. So, my surgery was scheduled for November 7th. That meant we had a short bit of time to get in some rides, camping and visits to see our family.

Our first ride was on the 2011 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad. It’s a cruiser bike but comfortable. We did a couple loops down through Florida. Next up was a camping trip. We decided just to ride down to the campground on the lake only about 10 minutes away. Since it was the off-season, we got a site right on the lake and park the boat right in front of the camper. We had a couple of really nice days on the lake and even took a sunset Cruise. I also got a chance to smoke a couple hams on the smoker. These were smoked with cherry wood for 14 hours. Humm, so good.

My surgeon had told me to stay off the bike for about 12 weeks. Then I could ride if I was very careful. We would be recovering at a campground in Florida for the winter, so we decided to ride the bike down to a friend’s place in Lake Wales. We spent Halloween weekend with our son and his family at their home in Davenport. We had a fun time trick-or-treating with my granddaughter, Lucy. On Sunday before returning we went to a unique place called the Showcase of Citrus. Showcase of Citrus has been a central Florida attraction since 1989. We go there frequently, play cards and have a couple drinks while my granddaughter plays with friends or just amuses herself. They had a couple new lemurs in one of the enclosures, so we did an encounter where Lucy got to hold them. She was thrilled.

The rest of the week was in preparation for Friday’s surgery. I had to be good, so no drinking was allowed. I was also off my aspirin. The surgery center was about an hour and a half from us. We decided to spend a couple of days in a hotel because they wanted me to spend the night since we were so far away. That made it easy for Melanie to come visit.

In the next blog I will talk about the surgery. As I write this, I am now 9 weeks post-op and in recovery mode. As usual, I am very impatient as life awaits and I need to be on a motorcycle in England in July.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and your new year is going well.

Cheers,

2WANDRRs
