Morning, Day Two

Just as the French, and Charles De Gaulle airport seem to redeem themselves, they plunge right back down again.

We had a restful night sleep in our 10×10, overpriced box of a hotel room. I woke up at about 3am and decided to check my email for the results of my CoVID PCR test that needed to be redone for us to continue our trip. As you might remember, the one we had that was good for us to travel from Atlanta to Cairo was not okay to travel with in France. All was good, as both of our tests were still negative. We were looking forward to a fantastic day of total boredom in the Paris airport.

We finally decided to go and look for some food at about 8am. Walking to the train and back to where we went yesterday for a snack we prepared to go through security again. We were stopped this time and denied entrance since our flight was tomorrow instead of today. We went through the same explanation to three officials as yesterday. All we want to do is get something to eat. The answer? NO!!

What do you mean, NO? We are at the airport hotel, can’t leave the hotel to get food and, we have been told, this is the only place to get food. Still, NO! I really tried to stay calm, but how is that possible when dealing with idiots. We were told to go to the Air France counter and either get a food voucher from them or bring one of them with us to eat. Fat chance that will happen.

So we walked back to the Air France desk and were told that they couldn’t give us a food voucher and were not able to take us through. As they talk to each other in French while ignoring us, with dumb looks on their collective faces and shoulder shrugs when we ask, “What are we to do?”, I feel like strangling them. Absolute stupidity!

They finally have a solution. Go up a floor to the end of the hall, to the CDG lounge, and they will have food for us. Okay, so off we go.

We finally get to the lounge to find closed doors. Because of CoVID, the lounge is closed. As we walk back to the Air France desk trailing smoke down the hall our pace is quickened. Their solution then is to give us a box of food containing things a dog would turn down. Well, maybe not a skinny and hungry street dog, but any of our pets that we love so much. We couldn’t even pass the second bite. The fish ball soup I had in Vietnam started sounding good.

Back to the hotel and now they change their story, new people, don’t you know. “There is a sandwich shop near here, in a closer terminal, where you can eat”. You don’t even want to know my thoughts, but a sailor would have blushed. Of course we smiled, or maybe it was a bit of a grimace as my tongue was hurting where I was about to bite it in two. Down we go and attempt to go through security, and..DENIED!!! After a few moments of discussion, by Melanie, I had to be quiet, we are let through to get something to eat. Fucking crazy bastards.

Now i know why many Europeans try and avoid this airport.

Tomorrow will not be here soon enough. Hopefully the rules won’t change again overnight.

Cheers,
