After spending a couple nights camped in Trout River it was time to ride in to KillDevil Camp, in Gros Morne National Park, and the inaugural Horizons Unlimited Newfoundland Travelers Meeting. The road between the two camps, about 40 kms, is beautiful at times running along a wide clear river and other times through green bogs and thick spruce forests.
Pulling into camp is always exciting with friends, old and those waiting to be met, greeting you. This is the first Horizons Unlimited event to be held in Newfoundland. Four years ago we met David Moores and Karen Thistle in Germany. After a fun evening out we invited them to HU Italy, where we were heading and presenting. A couple weeks later they showed up for the event and had a wonderful time. Such a good time they decided to bring a travelers event to Newfoundland, where they called home. The event was planned for 2020, but, like so many things, CoVid scares and government reactions kept the event from happening until 2022.
The chosen location, KillDevil Camp, (a great name for a church camp), is tucked in the Gros Morne National Park and is surrounded by breathtaking beauty and hiking trails. The event ran over three days and was chock full of interesting and informative presentations. A good group of people presented from riding Cambodia, India to UK, to riding a loop around southern Africa, photography demonstrations and record setting electric motorcycles.

David and Karen put the event together with help from a few key people. Mark Hayward, Krista Austin and Rick Wheeler.

The Horizon’s Unlimited Newfoundland already had a time slot for next year. If you missed it this year, place it on the calendar for 2023. The riding to the event is just the icing on the cake.
Cheers,
