If an accident happened in front of you, would you know what to do until help arrives? Imagine you’re riding your motorcycle and the person you’re riding with goes down…what do you do until help arrives? What if the person is your partner, spouse, best friend or other person in the group? Become a MOTORCYCLE FIRST RESPONDER!
Riding motorcycles takes us to some pretty amazing locations. Some of these locations tend to be very remote, tar and dirt. That also means help and emergency services can be far away, or even out of cell phone and internet range. Remember that feeling when you couldn’t call ahead to reserve a room? Now take that to the next level. Head injury, neck injury, bleeding, broken limbs, shock. Are you able to stabilize someone while waiting for emergency services to arrive? Most riders aren’t. The motorcycle trauma training program is directed toward specific issues related to motorcycle accidents, traffic safety, and how to administer care. Learn crash scene management, spine stabilization, helmet removal, bleeding control, etc.
Accident Scene Management (ASM) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to reducing injuries and fatalities to Motorcyclists through First Response Education. ASM has trained nearly 40,000 students through the expertise of over 100 instructors in 32 states across the USA. We have become the largest Motorcycle Trauma Training organization in the world, leading the way with instructors in South Africa, Australia, the Philippines & the USA. ASM / Road Guardians accredited by CAPCE (Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education).
I have recently become an instructor with ASM / Road Guardians. My goal will be to educate other riders on Accident Scene Management and find groups that take motorcycle safety very seriously and educate within those groups. Groups such as HOG, BMWMOA, ABATE, and so many other riding clubs. Motorcycle classes should also be paired with ASM to be fully prepared. We will also be looking for sponsors to offset some of the costs of classes and provide a lunch. Sponsors such as motorcycle dealerships, Attorneys that ride, Physicians that ride, State level motorcycle safety and awareness programs. I recently attended the National Academy of Motorcycle Injury Lawyers, NAMIL, in Las Vegas. These attorneys really care and understand us. They will fight for your rights against insurance companies. They care enough to sponsor ongoing ASM classes in their areas and support ASM / Road Guardians. My interview with Polly Marinova on a podcast by Justin Lovely of the Lovely Law Firm of South Carolina, a huge supporter of ASM.
There are two different layers to the program. The 100 series deals with the basic Accident Scene Management and gives most riders just what they need to help a fallen rider and possibly save a life. There is also a 300 series class that takes the care to another level. These classes get scheduled as requested by groups and instructors become available. You can find classes here. You can also get a group of your friends and riding partners together to request a class in your area. Class size should be around 20 and is also limited to 20 students per instructor.
If I can help anyone find a class or help you to put a class together, please contact me at 2wandrrs@gmail.com.
See you in class or somewhere on the road.
Cheers,
Greg / WANDRR
