Waking up in the morning with a beautiful blue sky and the promise to be hot that day. First up, a nice cup of coffee. We packed up camp and continued on our Westerly route following the coastline. The blue water of the Black Sea was absolutely beautiful, but the coastal route was lined with high rise holdings and hotels with the busyness and congestion of a major tourist area. Tired of the city feel, we turned south away from the Black Sea and headed to the hills.

We had decided against visiting Istanbul as we needed to get to Motocamp Bulgaria for the Horizons Unlimited Bulgaria travelers meeting. We were presenting our ride around Africa and were excited to get there, as many of our friends would be in attendance. On the maps we had noticed a small place inland called Burj Al Babas. This was a deserted housing project in the middle of nowhere. It consisted of $732 miniature chalets built to Target in Middle Eastern market that was started in 2014. It went bankrupt in 2019 after presales of 50% in the US$350,000 to $500,000 range. The community was meant to have its own community center with shopping, theater, thermal spas, etc. Not one was ever finished. They are now looking for a buyer. I had heard that it is highly guarded with fencing and barbed wire around the outside. While we were up on a hill overlooking the project having a drink of water out of a well we heard allowed bang. Thinking, ” Is that a gunshot!”, we quickly hopped on the bike and got out of there.

Going down the small hillside roads in the area we continued on where we would spend a couple nights. The place we decided to stay at was called Hotel Zeyton Bahcesi. It was perfect. They gave us a room on the second floor overlooking the pool in the gardens and the lake. After putting our gear in the room we took a walk down by the lake and found a liquor store just down the street always secured a couple drinks. Heading back to the hotel we spent the afternoon in the pool surrounded by families on a holiday and kids having a great time in the pool. They would have live music that night and we enjoyed an evening meal under olive trees.

After a couple relaxing days just chilling we decided it was time to head to the border of Turkey and Bulgaria. In the next post of this ride I will be talking about Horizons Unlimited and Horizons Unlimited Bulgaria.

Cheers,
