Wow, what a crazy ride 2020 was. It started off full of hope and uncertainty, then went the shape of a pear.

It is now January 7th. CoVid 19 is still with us, as is its newest cousin. The numbers are bad, some countries are shutting down again and some are open for travel. Changes day to day, but many seem to feel economic collapse is worse than the other. The presidential election is finally over. Half the country is pissed off and the other half are happy. I see a pattern emerging, don’t you? Four more year of uncertainty and whoknowsthehellwhatnext.

On January 6th we and the world saw a breach of the capital while congress was in session. A giant, mostly peaceful protest descended on Washington, D.C. A small, majority of course, had other unreasonable thoughts in mind as they stormed the Capital with the idea that congress would overturn the election in favor of President Trump. Finally, with the help of several other peace keeping forces, the crowds were turned back, Trump has conceded the election and order was restored. I hope we, as a country, can start to heal from where we are now. Between the virus and the election, we are very divided. It looks as if 2021 will be a year of hope and uncertainty, again.

We are now living in Gypsy’s Retreat. Besides some little things inside, outside landscaping, barn and a bike shop, it’s done. The shower is the final project and it will be completed this week. Melanie and all her research putting things together has made this a place to be proud of.

We had our first overnight guests also. My son, Dallas, and his wife, Jess, came down for a couple days over Christmas. We had a great time trying to figure out how to heat this place in sub-freezing temperatures but made it through without any frostbite. The place is so well insulated that it appears it is possible to heat with just a small propane fireplace.

Now, with the election over and while we are still carrying the antibodies of the Corona virus, we think we will go away for a month. We want to see more of the world while we wait to get back to Lisbon, Portugal and ride off on Yellow Donkey. A few countries are open to travel now, ticket prices are low, and tourism is almost non-existent. I think we will go to a place I cannot get my bike into right now, Egypt. Apply for a visa, buy a ticket and go explore and meet some more of the friendly people of the world.

Ciao, for now, and keep hopeful for a kinder world in 2021.

Cheers,
